Research tools

Sources and trust

Every work page names its source: the edition or translation it was taken from, with a link where the source gives one. The full list of sources cited across the library is on the source bibliography page.

Each work page also carries a Status and License line. Status is “fragment” only where the work's own title says it is a fragment; otherwise it reads “not stated.” License is “Public domain” only where the work's own source label says so; otherwise it reads “not stated.” “Not stated” means the source data does not say — nothing is guessed, and no work is described as a critical edition unless its source warrants it.

Incomplete texts are labelled as such on their pages — for example, works available in the original language only, or chapters with no surviving text. Where verse or chapter numbering differs between versions, each version is labelled with its own reference and nothing is silently renumbered.
